Iglesia Na Sa de la Merced, Potosi

Overlooking a small square, just a few streets from the Plaza 10 de Noviembre, can be found the Iglesia Na Sa de la Merced. One of the most impressive and fascinating features of this church is its intricately carved doorway, which features columns, crests and crosses.

Inside, the church has made a museum of its features. The artifacts are mainly items of religious art. Not quite as impressive as those housed in the Convent Santa Maria, for example, they still provide a fascinating insight into Potosi's colonial history. Its most impressive feature, however, is on the rooftop.

From the Mirador, at the very top of La Merced, there is a stunning view over the whole of the city. It is one of the best ways to take in Potosi and the magnificent vista of the Cerro Rico.
