I recently got dual citizenship so a Bolivian American. I would like to invest in some property. How is the real estate market in Bolivia right now in particular La Paz? I was looking through some ads and surprised to see that a lot of property in La Paz is about as high as the suburbs where I live in Virginia! $350,000-900,000. Has anyone who lives in the US invested in property and how did you go about it? What did you do or who did you have take care of the property while away? I guess...

There are calls for a indefinite nationwide general strike with road blocks beginning Tuesday. Monday is a public holiday, to celebrate the anniversary of President Morales first taking office in 2006.
This protest against government policies is being called by a disparate group of organizations, including the COB (trade unions), regional and local citizens groups, transport operators, etc. If these heterogeneous groups can coordinate amongst themselves sufficiently to achieve...

Hi I am planning a trip to south America Aug 2019. Solo traveller. I want to visit the salt flats and was planning on a multi day group trip from Le Paz, but don't like the idea of spending two nights on a bus. Overnight travel 12 hours . I see have a trip of flying down early day 1 and spending 1 night before returning again late after sunset on day 2. Would anyone think this is the best option for me. That way I can leave most of my luggage in my hotel in Le Paz even...

One final question por favor ... upon reading the 60+ replies on Yellow fever vaccine, noticed someone say that they obtained VOA for $160 cash at La Paz airport.

As much as I hope that money would not be pocketed by a immigration officer, ... is it possible to obtain VOA in La Paz for a U.S. citizen if anyone else has tried it? The application online is a bit of PIA : /

Thanks again

Buenas dias,

We are looking to drive 2,400km from La paz to Sucre, via Hwy 1 to Hwy 6 to get to Sucre, rather than going the longer Hwy 1 through Potosi to Sucre ...

My question, how is the Hwy 6, to Route 38 stretch getting to La Higuera and Vallegrande???

We have plenty of driving experience, but I am wondering whether regular tires on a small Economy car can handle the sharp stones on the roads beyond Sucre (I'm assuming Hwy 6 will be fine, but route 38 may be...

Hope everyone is well. I have waited out a month or two and emailed directly & looked on multiple sites ... Bolivia is the only country in memory that seems to have a 100-150km limit across the board, with most of the multi-nationals car hires.

Anyone with any experience with Saav???

Finally found a company called Saav, that rents at decent rate and says unlimted
(one location is listed as:
1) Agencia Curva de Holguin, Domo S/N, prveios Toyosa...

Hello, we are heading to Bolivia in April and I have been reading some really bad reviews on Amaszonas Airlines. We have booked with them to fly from La Paz to Rurrenabaque return and then La Paz to Uyuni return. I’m now worried I’ve just wasted our money and we won’t even get to see the amazon or the salt flats if our flights are canceled. We’re only on each tour for 3 days...

Has anyone flown with Amaszonas recently that has had a positive experience?

Also looking for...

Can anybody who has been to Isla del Sol recently tell me if the north side of the island is still blockaded? I’m booked for three nights on the south side of the island in September and want to know if it’s worth the visit. Any advice appreciated.

I see a promising trek of the Cordillera Real, of roughly 148 miles -- for about 2000 USD.

Now, this is what's listed on the internet, and my experience from Southern Peru is that once you are in the country, prices can be as much as 50% less.

I've also been told by people coming from Bolivia to Peru that in general things are roughly half as expensive in Bolivia than in Peru, so this seems high, when compared, say, with the price of a circuit trek of the Huayhuash....

My partner and I are looking around for a tour company to visit the salt flats with. We are in our early 30s and don’t really want to be in a tour with really young backpackers and don’t mind paying a bit more for a English speaking guide, safe car/driver, private rooms, better food and hot showers.
Are there any tour companies you would recommend we look at?

Dear fellow travelers,

My fiance and I will be spending 3 weeks in Peru & Bolivia for our honeymoon in June 2018.
I've come up with the following itinerary so far.

Could you please point out if there are some big mistakes or inconsistencies in this travel plan?
Is there anything you would definitely add or leave out?
Any other suggestions?

We have only booked our in- and outbound tickets so far.

REMARK: the 1st part of our...

We're traveling to Bolivia in about a month and working on organizing visas. We're both US citizens. Working through the online application is onerous to say the least.

Anyone know how getting a visa on arrival works for Americans? Thanks in advance!!!

Hi guys.
I'm going to Bolivia on next february with my girlfriend and we have a big doubt.

We´re leaving La Paz at Feb 20th, and we'd like to be in Cuszco at Feb 23rd.

What is amazing and can´t be missed on our way to Cuszco? I know there is Copacabana, Isla del Sol, Puno and the Uros. Do I have time to visit them all? Im thinking about passing through Copacabana direct to Puno. Is that a bad idea?
Thank you!!!

We are 4 people who don't want to join the 3-days tour, but need a car with tour guide, start from Uyuni to San Pedro de Atacama(Chile) in one day. And can continue our journey to Chile.
(And we also want to go some scenery such as Laguna Blanca, Laguna Colorada, Solar de Manaña geyser, and Laguna Verde)
I'd like to know is there any agency or some customization tour which we can decide by our own?

What’s the SIM card situation in La Paz?

I have an unlocked iPhone. I’d like to get a SIM card with a local phone number and data.

Available in the airport? Only in the city? Easy to organize or a complete pain?

My girlfriend and I will be in La Paz at the end of January/beginning of February and would like to do a day trip to uyuni.

We prefer to fly as opposed to taking the bus.

As far as I can tell, we have two options:

  1. Arrange flights ourselves. We found one that arrives around 8am and departs around 830p. If we do this, I was hoping we could get some recommendations for a tour group that would make the rest of the day easy. Either pick us...
