Located just 35 minutes from Cochabamba, Tarata boasts one of the most fascinating histories of Valle Alto. Thanks to its well-preserved colonial architecture it remains a popular tourist destination in the valley. Various important buildings remain in fine condition like the San Pedro temple located in the Plaza de Armas where a gorgeous organ from the 1700s is conserved. One can also visit the San Jose Convent, the first of its kind constructed in Bolivia. Also offering visitors spectacular views is the Constorial Palace. In Tarata tourists can also visit rustic weaving and spinning workshops.
