Spirit of the Andes is a non profit organisation based in La Paz, Bolivia. We aim to help the poorest of Bolivian women, many of whom have been abandoned by their husbands, to make a living by teaching them to knit to high standards.

Once they have learned how to knit, Spirit of the Andes also helps them to market their products on international markets. Now there are over 1000 knitters in Spirit of the Andes producing high quality alpaca knitted goods for children and dogs.

Voluntarios:
Over the years we have had dozens of dedicated volunteers who have come from all over the world: England, France, Pakistan, Ireland, Germany, Wales, Australia, USA, Spain, and India.
 
Spirit of the Andes welcomes volunteers who'd like to spend 3 or more months in Bolivia working with our women and their children. We need people, who like to design clothing, work with web sites, play and teach little children and share their various skills with the knitters. Anyone with a desire to teach and to learn is welcome.
