Heroinas de la Coronilla Monument

 

 

Description:
This monument to the female heroes of the 27th of May independence movement lies on San Sebastian Hill. It honors Doña Manuela Gandarillas and other brave women who decide to fight the invading royal armies of Goyeneche. The women armed themselves and fought to the death atop the hill in a bloody battle.  The hilltop today is known as an area of high crime, and as many tourists have been assualted in this location it is not recommended to visit.
